Mental health first aid can help prevent suicide

Kevin Hines said that he felt “instant regret” the moment he gave in to despair and catapulted himself over the railing of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, plummeting to the waters beneath. He’s here to tell his tale only because Sgt. Kevin Briggs of the California Highway Patrol witnessed his plunge and was already on his way to intervene.

Hines, now an author and inspirational speaker, and Briggs, now retired, reunited before an audience at Three Rivers Community College in Norwich on April 24 to talk about suicide prevention.
