Create Healthier and More Engaged Employees with Mental Health First Aid at Work

Do your employees know what to do or say if a coworker seems to be struggling with mental health challenges?

Consider this: 40% of employees have reported that their jobs have had a negative impact on their mental health, and 75% of employees indicated that stigma was present in their workplaces.

These numbers continue to rise and can have a direct impact on team members’ overall wellbeing and engagement, productivity and retention in the workplace.

Take the first step to create a thriving workforce with Mental Health First Aid at Work.

The National Council for Mental Wellbeing delivers Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) at Work directly to clients. This allows us to offer a full MHFA at Work experience, including consulting services.

At this time, it is an enterprise-level system that is not currently available for the train-the-trainer model of our MHFA community courses. MHFA at Work Instructor-led courses are delivered by select National Trainers, recruited for their diverse business backgrounds, mental health expertise, familiarity with target industries and long tenure working with the National Council.

The new MHFA at Work program suite includes a collection of four comprehensive courses:

  • Intro (our first-ever eLearning course): Employees at all levels will learn how to help themselves and others. It also collects anonymous data on how they’re currently feeling.
  • Certification: Employees at all levels will master the skills needed to recognize and help coworkers with mental health and substance use challenges — and walk away certified.
  • Champion: A network of employees in your organization will be empowered to provide mental health and substance use support to other employees as the company’s go-to resource.
  • Transform: Management, HR and legal professionals from your organization discuss the current mental health culture and create a wellbeing strategy for your organization.

These courses build on each other, offering a powerful education on mental health and substance use. Restaurant and retail industry-specific versions are also available.

With MHFA at Work, businesses can teach employees at every level how to recognize and respond to colleagues who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge in the workplace, build a resilient mindset and implement best practices for self-care.

For many of us, we spend at least 40 hours a week working alongside our colleagues — that’s 40 hours a week to recognize when someone needs our support. Encouraging more companies to adopt MHFA at Work will create a new safety net in our workplaces and bring us closer to our goal of training 1 out of every 15 people in the country to recognize and respond to those experiencing mental health and substance use challenges.
