Join the Movement: Transform Mental Wellbeing Support for BIPOC Youth

Apply for Funded Youth MHFA Training for Your Team!

Do you work at an organization that is passionate about mental health advocacy? Does your team serve the Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) community? And, does your team want to make a difference in the lives of BIPOC youth and their mental wellbeing?

As part of the National Council for Mental Wellbeing’s grant initiative through our partnership with Team: Changing Minds, we are offering fully-funded Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) trainings to community organizations that align with the Team: Changing Minds’ mission and interact with youth, especially BIPOC youth who identify as male.

By taking a funded Youth MHFA training through our Team: Changing Minds partnership, your team will learn:

  • Common signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in this age group, including anxiety, depression, eating disorders and attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD).
  • How to interact with a child or adolescent in crisis.
  • How to connect youth with help.
  • Trauma, substance use, self-care and the impact of social media and bullying.

Youth Mental Wellbeing

The research is clear on why supporting youth mental health is a priority:

of youth will be diagnosed with a substance use disorder in their lifetime. (1)

youth aged 6-17 experience a mental health disorder each year in the U.S. (2)

of all mental illnesses begin by age 14, and 75% by the mid-20s. (3)

By participating in a funded Youth MHFA training through Team: Changing Minds, your team will learn how to identify, understand and respond to early signs that a young person may be facing a mental health or substance use challenge.

About Team: Changing Minds

The National Council for Mental Wellbeing helped form Team: Changing Minds in 2022 alongside Futures Without Violence, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and founding investor Harry’s. This initiative helps activate trusted peers and adults in young people’s lives, especially BIPOC youth who identify as male, and recognize the signs of mental health challenges to connect them to support earlier in their lives — before challenges become crises.
